Timken Drives — Agricultural Chain Connecting Links
Cotter Pin & Spring Clip Styles · A-Series · CA-Series
Timken Drives connecting links (also called master links or coupling links) join the free ends of a chain reel into a closed loop. Every connecting link must match the chain pitch and series exactly — using a mismatched link will fail under load.
- Cotter Pin (CP) style: two solid pins retained by a cotter through each pin end — the permanent, high-vibration choice. Once cottered, the link cannot back off under shock. Preferred for combines, balers, forage headers, and anywhere chain shock is high.
- Spring Clip (SC) style: two pins retained by a spring clip snapped over the pin ends — faster to install and remove for chain that gets pulled apart regularly. Available for A550 and CA550 only.
- Matching series: Use the same series as your chain reel. A-series links pair with A-series chain, CA with CA. Mixing is not recommended.
- Construction: Heat-treated solid pins and sideplates identical in dimension and strength to the parent chain.
- Typical use: Every chain reel requires at least one connecting link to close the loop; keep spares on hand.
