Product Description
Martin - Quadra-Flex® Coupling Sleeve Element
Martin Sprocket & Gear — 117 Configurations
The Quadra-Flex® coupling sleeve is the replaceable elastomeric element at the heart of every Quadra-Flex coupling assembly. It absorbs shock loads, dampens torsional vibration, and compensates for angular, parallel, and axial misalignment — all without metal-to-metal contact between the coupling halves.
Sleeves are available in 13 sizes (3 through 16) covering torque ratings from 78 to 47,250 in-lb, and in multiple elastomer compounds to match your application’s temperature, chemical, and load requirements. Solid 1-piece designs install without moving connected equipment; split designs allow replacement without disturbing either hub.
Select your coupling size and sleeve type above. Sizes 3–10 offer the widest range of sleeve materials; sizes 11–16 are available in Neoprene, EPDM, and Hytrel.
- Drop-In Replacement — direct interchange with existing Quadra-Flex assemblies, no modifications needed
- No Lubrication Required — elastomeric design eliminates maintenance and contamination concerns
- Fail-Safe Design — coupling halves interlock so the drive continues even if the sleeve fails
- Misalignment Tolerance — accommodates angular, parallel, and axial shaft misalignment simultaneously
- Split & 2-Piece Options — replace the sleeve without moving motors, gearboxes, or driven equipment
- 9 Elastomer Options — TPR, Neoprene, EPDM, and Hytrel compounds for any operating environment
Choosing the Right Sleeve Material
Each Quadra-Flex sleeve compound is engineered for specific operating conditions. The right material depends on temperature range, chemical exposure, torque requirements, and whether field replacement without equipment moves is needed.
| Code | Material | Construction | Temp Range | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| TPR (Thermoplastic Rubber) — General Purpose | ||||
| JEM | TPR | Solid 1-Piece | −30°F to +165°F | Most common replacement, general purpose drives |
| JEMS | TPR | Split 1-Piece | −30°F to +165°F | Replace without moving hubs — field service |
| EM | TPR | 2-Piece | −30°F to +165°F | Field replacement, no equipment repositioning |
| Neoprene — Chemical & Oil Resistant | ||||
| JN | Neoprene | Solid (J-Type) | −40°F to +200°F | Oil/grease exposure, outdoor, wider temp range |
| JNS | Neoprene | Split (J-Type) | −40°F to +200°F | Oil exposure + field replacement capability |
| N | Neoprene | Standard | −40°F to +200°F | Heavy duty, chemical resistance, large sizes (11–16) |
| Specialty Compounds — Extreme Conditions | ||||
| E | EPDM | Standard | −40°F to +300°F | High temperature, steam, hot water (NOT oil compatible) |
| H | Hytrel® | Solid | −60°F to +250°F | Maximum torque capacity, minimal deflection |
| HS | Hytrel® | 2-Piece | −60°F to +250°F | High torque + field replacement capability |
Key Material Notes:
- TPR (JEM/JEMS/EM) — lowest cost, good vibration dampening, most popular for indoor general-purpose drives
- Neoprene (JN/JNS/N) — resists petroleum oils, ozone, and weathering; required for outdoor or oily environments
- EPDM (E) — excellent for steam, hot water, and high-temp applications but not compatible with petroleum-based oils or greases
- Hytrel (H/HS) — highest torque rating per size, lowest vibration dampening; use where stiffness matters more than shock absorption

Where Quadra-Flex Sleeves Keep the Drive Running
- Pump Systems — motor-to-pump connections on centrifugal, positive displacement, and submersible pump drives. Sleeve absorbs startup torque spikes and protects pump seals from misalignment loads.
- Conveyor Systems — motor-to-gearbox and gearbox-to-head-shaft connections on belt, roller, and screw conveyors. Split sleeves (JEMS/JNS) allow replacement during scheduled downtime without chain removal.
- Agricultural Equipment — irrigation pumps, grain elevators, feed mills, and PTO-driven implements. Neoprene sleeves (JN/N) resist dust, moisture, and seasonal temperature swings.
- Oil & Gas — production pump jacks, compressor drives, and wellsite generators. Neoprene resists petroleum-based lubricants; Hytrel handles high-torque cycling.
- HVAC Systems — fan drives, chiller compressors, and cooling tower motors. EPDM sleeves (E) handle steam and hot-water environments up to 300°F.
- Food & Beverage — mixer drives, bottle line conveyors, and washdown environments. No-lube design eliminates contamination risk.
- General Industrial — mixers, agitators, generators, machine tools, and any motor-to-load connection requiring misalignment accommodation and vibration dampening.
1 Sleeve is the replaceable elastomer element only — coupling flanges (hubs) sold separately.
2 Split and 2-piece sleeves allow replacement without disturbing connected equipment.
3 Hytrel® sleeves transmit the highest torque but provide less vibration dampening than rubber compounds.
4 EPDM sleeves are not compatible with petroleum-based oils or greases.
5 Torque ratings are for the coupling assembly — actual capacity depends on flange selection and service factor.
