How to Cross-Reference a Bearing Part Number

How to Cross-Reference a Bearing Part Number

Need the Timken equivalent of a competitor or OEM bearing? There are three reliable ways to cross-reference a bearing — by part number, by dimensions, or by matching a cone to its cup. Here is how to do each.

1. By competitor or OEM part number (fastest)

If you have the old part number — from the equipment, the failed bearing, or a parts list — look it up directly. Our Bearing Interchange & Cross-Reference covers OEM and competitor numbers across 70+ manufacturers (John Deere, Case, New Holland, International Harvester, PEER and more) and returns the Timken equivalent, linked to the product when we stock it.

2. By dimensions

No part number? Measure three things and match: bore (inner diameter), outer diameter (O.D.), and width. For tapered roller bearings the cone is identified by bore and the cup by O.D. Browse by type — tapered, spherical, cylindrical, ball — and filter to your size.

3. Match a tapered cone to its cup

Tapered roller bearing cones and cups are sold as matched sets. Use the Cone & Cup Matching chart to find the correct cup for your cone (or cone for your cup) by part number.

Before you order

  • Confirm all three dimensions (bore, O.D., width) — a matching part number should still match the measurements.
  • Check the load rating and any seal/shield or special configuration on the original.
  • All Timken bearings we sell are genuine, factory-fresh stock. Not sure on a cross? Contact us with the old number and your dimensions.
